From Nov. 2009 through May 2011, I served as Online Content/PR Coordinator for Michigan's Capital Area District Library system.
In the spring of 2009, I wrote and gave a presentation for an audience of hundreds at an event called Ignite Lansing. The presentation was designed to change local assumptions about what a modern library does. The Library: Not What You Think was later featured on the Geek the Library and LIS News blogs:

December 2011
During the summer of 2011, I interned at the Oak Park (IL) Public Library, working with teen volunteers to develop apps, animations and more to help support the library.
I have a library tattoo and was featured in 8bitlibrary.com's Project Brand Yourself a Librarian series in November of 2010.
I was the subject of a feature story in Lansing, MI publication in November 2010: Landing in Lansing: Heidi Gustad.

May 2010: I did a presentation about public library applications of video technology at the Michigan Library Association's Tech Escape conference with my colleague, Angela Semifero.

October 2010: A colleague and I did a presentation at Wayne State University on using new media in special and small libraries. At the time, I was also serving as the SLA@WSU Secretary.

Millage Campaign
During the summer of 2009, I managed the graphic design, web administration and social media for my local library’s millage renewal campaign, Support CADL.
The millage passed with 71.45% of the vote, making it the most successful millage in Capital Area District Library history.
Craft Gossip
February 2012
I became the Candle Making Editor for CraftGossip.com in March of 2012. 5+ days a week, I share candle making ideas, information and projects with thousands of Craft Gossip readers around the world.

Glen Ellyn Library
March 2012
I work full time as the Glen Ellyn Public Library's Online Content & Marketing Coordinator. In this newly-created position, I'm responsible for overhauling the library's brand and marketing approach, as well as GEPL's website. The new brand and site launched March 1, 2012. At GEPL, we know that libraries aren't just about books anymore. Built in 1995 and recently updated, our building has 52,000 square feet on three floors. We hold over 220,000 items including books, magazines, DVDs and CDs, in addition to downloadable eBooks, audiobooks and music. We subscribe to dozens of online databases and conduct programs and events for all ages.

I assist in organizing and promoting monthly craft shows at bars and other venues throughout Chicagoland.
I also administer and handle site development for urbanfolkcircuit.com and craftbarchicago.com.
Hands Occupied

Hands Occupied is a blog about crafting, the handmade community, inspiration and independent crafters. I like to share original tutorials, project ideas, craft fair vendor roundups, vintage craft finds, and more. I grew up in North Dakota, matured and married in Michigan, and am now based in Chicago.
